Head Injuries in New York Accidents
Head Injuries are common in many motor vehicle accidents and slip and fall accidents.
Common Head Injuries
The most common head injuries are concussions and skull fracture.
Concussions- Common Head Injuries
A concussion is the most common type of head injury. A concussion is defined as “a complex pathophysiological process affecting the brain, induced by traumatic biomechanical forces.” A concussion is generally a temporary impairment of neurological function that can sometimes (and often) heal by itself over time.
The most common symptom of a concussion is headaches. Other symptoms include vomiting, nausea, difficulty balancing, dizziness, lack of motor coordination, light sensitivity, seeing bright lights, blurred vision and double vision.
In some extreme cases, seizures and tremors can occur.
Treating concussions is difficult. Most researchers and doctors recommend plenty of sleep and relaxation. Most symptoms will resolve within seven to ten day. Medications may be prescribed to treat pain, headaches, and depression.
Concussions- Skull Fractures
A skull fracture is a break in one of the eight bones in the cranial portion of the skull. A skull fracture generally occurs from blunt force trauma, such as an assault, hitting a person’s head on a dashboard, or falling and striking your head on concrete.
